Our Journey to Bethlehem – Day 4 I Jesus, the Prince of Peace came to give us peace.

Peace is most sought for, though a most elusive of all treasures and a missing ingredient in our mixed-up world. Prophet Isaiah announced that a child will be born, and He shall be called a Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace (Is. 9: 6). Isaiah’s, Prince of Peace came to earth to establish the Kingdom of peace on earth. A host of heavenly angels came praising God and heralded “Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace among men with whom He is well pleased” (Luke 2: 13-14). When He was born, He was heralded as good news for all people (Lk 2: 10). when He was presented in the temple Simeon recognized that He was holding the salvation of all people (Lk 2: 30-31). Peace is central to Christmas.

Jesus came to bring peace on earth. He came to make peace between God of Peace and rebellious, sinful human beings, to bring is peace between mankind and God. Jesus came, to bring us peace, peace to our world, peace to our hearts. St. Paul writes to the Ephesians ‘Jesus, Himself is our Peace(Eph. 2: 14). Jesus is our Peace Giver. Yes! He greeted the disciples saying, “Peace be unto you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”” (Jn. 20: 21). So, peace is not a principle, a theory, a concept or a social ideal, but Christ himself. This ‘Peace’ of Christ is one of the most needed. Jesus said to His disciples “Peace I leave with you; My Peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives, Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Jn. 14: 27. “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5: 1-3.

Jesus makes it possible for us to be a peace with God, without peace with God, no real peace is possible Jesus offers peace within. Let us pray as St. Paul prayed… “Now may the Lord of Peace Himself give you peace always in every way” (2 Th 3: 16). Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is willing to give you His peace. Let the Peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4: 7)
