A Family that Prays together Stays together

A family is the most ancient institution in the history of mankind. An ideal Christian family is like the Blessed, Holy Trinity – united in one. A true Christian family is the icon or an image of the Church and in fact a basic unit of the Church or society. A family is a place of comfort and our support, place of our peace and happiness and a place of our refuge and our strength. ‘Every good and every perfect gift is from above. so is our family, a special gift from God. Our FAMILY is a God’s perfect gift to us. A model of Holy Family for us to look upon consists of the Child Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and St Joseph. Our family cannot be compared to anything under the sky. LORD designed each family with a greater purpose to share His power, His love, and His Glory.

Families are united and ordained together by the Hand of Christ. So, Christ and the Church that should become the real focus of the family. Family prayer creates a strong bond of love and understanding among all the members of the family. It allows strengthening of bonds, each other’s faith, love, and earnestness so that true forgiveness can readily take place. It is here in a family that true Christian love should be learned and exercised. If, we cannot love our own flesh and blood, then we cannot show true Christian love to our neighbors. If we cannot love either our family or neighbor, we are unable and not worthy to love God Himself. So, praying together in a family helps to build up that necessary love of family, neighbor, and God. Prayer heals, protects, builds family unity, strengthen family ties and is one of the keys to a flourishing family, to more patient, kind, forgiving, and humble.

Prayer is important in every man’s life. It we are not in close touch with our Creator and Redeemer, then our life will be very barren and empty. It is very important for a family to move together as a family of God, seeking God’s face in prayer and living to please Him in all we do, say, and think!

Only through prayer, can the family remain holy, and the parents can mould the life of their children and prepare them as vessels of grace and establish their walk with God. Praying as a family will help you draw closer to God and to each other. Prayer brings blessings and peace to your home, can ease tension, and bring lasting happiness to your family.

A saint once wrote that the regular prayers in the family build a wall stronger than iron that the devil is always kept at bay. Parents should pray fervently for their children, until there are holes in their knees. Many children that lost their way, found God, only because of the prayers of their parents. A mother’s prayer on her knees, in tears for her child and a heart torn in agony, a pious father who feels the responsibility for his child on his shoulders, a child’s prayer for the long life and protection of his or her parents, will never be in vain. It will always be a beautiful thing to see Christian pious family with devout parents, surrounded, by their children, who are like newly planted olive shoots.

Noah was righteous in the eyes of God. He and his family were saved. All Christian family should be an ideal one like the obedient, God-fearing family of Noah, in prayer. We read of the Canaanite woman who prayed persistently for her daughter’s illness and finally Christ answered her prayers.

‘A family that prays together stays together‘. It is very important for a family to move together as a family of God, seeking God in prayer and living to please Him in all we do, in all we say and all we think! If we are not in close touch with our Creator and redeemer, then our life will be very barren.

A family with no prayers in their house will fall like a house of cards. So, to make our lives a successful one, a purposeful one and a meaningful one, we should pray together and say like Joshua, “As for me and my family we will serve God“.
