Our Journey to Bethlehem – Day 12 I Jesus Came to Proclaim and Preach the Good News
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because he has anointed Me to proclaim Good News to the poor……….. to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour…Is. 61: 1-2) but He said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” (Lk. 4: 18-19)
Jesus was the Anointed One Who came on earth to fulfil the kingdom of God and proclaim the Good News and Jesus commanded His disciples (‘us believers’)’ to preach the good news to all nations and proclaim the kingdom of God – telling people to repent and believe in Jesus Christ. Then he told them: Go and preach the good news to everyone in the world. So, wherever we go in the world, we have a responsibility to tell everyone the Good News, by our words, thoughts, and deeds. He is the ‘One’ Who offers true life by giving voice to the voiceless, face to the faceless, and upliftment to the oppressed of this world.
The Bible basis for this celebration is Gospel according to St. Luke 2: 10-11, when the Angel Gabriel announced “I bring you Good News that will bring great joy to all people. The Saviour – yes, the Messiah, the Lord, is the gospel message is about the greatest gift of all time. God gave us Jesus Christ, His Son, who brings great joy to everyone who receives him. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news that God provided the way for man to be freed from the penalty of sin (Jn 14:6; Rom 6:23). Everyone dies physically, but those who believe in Jesus Christ are promised a resurrection unto eternal life (John 11: 23–26). The purpose of Christmas is to share this gift. And what a perfect opportunity!
