Our Journey to Bethlehem – Day 20 I Jesus Came to be a Mediator between us and God.

Published by Jacob P Varghese on

Job, centuries before the birth of the Messiah, knew he needed a Saviour, a Mediator. He was crying for and He was longing for. In his desperate crisis, he longed for someone who could mediate between him and God.  He longed for a Mediator. Man is a sinner by birth, by nature, by choice, by practice, and by habit. Job said, He is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer Him, that we might confront each other in court. If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together” (Job 9: 32-33).

St Paul declared that Christ is the only Mediator of the New Covenant (Heb. 12: 24). “For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Who gave Himself a ransom for all …” 1 Timothy 2:5-6.  His name is Jesus. And since Jesus is both God and man at the same time, He became the Mediator.

The miracle of Incarnation qualified Him to represent man, to God. Clothed in the garment of humanity, enduring man’s agony, suffering man’s sorrows, tested man’s trials and tribulations, lived among man and died a man’s death. The cross was the greatest bridge between man and God. He came from the courts of God, to represent man to the eternal council of God. The Infinite Divine Sovereign came down to mediate and reconcile humankind before the throne of God. ‘He reconciled the world to Himself in Christ’ (2 Cor 5: 19)
