Blessed Virgin Mary – Our Model of Life – Let us all be POINTERS TO OUR LORD
Blessed Virgin Mary is the Best Pointer to our Lord.
Let us all be pointers to our Lord and Saviour
Mary is really the best pointer to our Lord. Angel Gabriel said, ‘our Lord is with you’! What a blessing is this! With God she is worthy of everything. Mary with Jesus is the icon of the Church. This is the reason why the Church emphatically stress that the picture of Mary should be always with Jesus. Elizabeth praises with the exclamatory phrase uttered her in the spirit filled moment, ‘mother of my Lord’. It is the Holy Spirit that prompted Elizabeth to call her mother of God. So never pay heed to anyone who calls her anything less than this. The most worthy, ideal spiritual life was filled in her life, that is the fellowship of the Lord.
Honoring St. Mary is not anything negating the role of our Lord. Mary is really the best pointer to our Lord. At the marriage feast at Cana in Galilee, she says “do whatever He says”. She herself is the perfect model for the submission before the will of God. Mary was the most blessed of women, and the perfect model of obedience to the will of God. She is our pioneer model to follow our Lord. “Mary points to Jesus. She asks us to bear witness to Jesus. She is constantly guiding us and leading us to her Son, Jesus, because in Him alone do we find salvation. He alone can change our loneliness, difficulties and sin into love, joy and forgiveness. He alone.”
What happens to Mary, the same happens to all who imitate her holy life of humility, obedience, and love. She is the ‘Vessel of Honor’ is full of grace, love, and spirit. With her all people will be ‘blessed’ to be “more honorable than the cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim” if they follow her example. All will have Christ born in us, by the Holy Spirit. All will become temples of the living God. All will share in the eternal life of His Kingdom who live the life that Mary lived. Ask God to help us live the kind of life that points others to Jesus Christ.
In this sense everything that is praised and glorified in Mary is a sign of what is offered to all of us in the life of the Church. It is for this reason that Mary, with the divine child Jesus within her, is called in the Orthodox Tradition the Image of the Church. For the assembly of those being saved is those in whom Christ dwells. St John the Baptist pointed to the Lord and said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!” When we point the way to Jesus, Who is Mercy and Love, we become ambassadors of His mercy, His Love, His compassion and His Salvation. Let us ask Mary’s intercession that we might do so as faithfully in our world as Blessed Mary did in hers.
O! blessed Mary pray for us sinners, at this time and at the time of our death. Through the prayers of the most-pure ever virgin Mary, the mother of God, Lord Jesus Christ, our God have mercy on us and save us. Amen!
