Yuyakim Mar Ivanios Metropolitan was born in 1858, son of Korah, in the ‘Karottuveetil house’ Kandanad. He learned Syriac, canons and beliefs of the Church under the disciplined training of Konat Geevarghese Mar Julios. He was a Sanskrit scholar too. He received his deaconship from Shemavoon Mar Dionysius on 6 April 1882, at Kadumangalam Church, and priesthood at Kottayam Old Seminary from Pulikkottil Mar Dionysius, 14 April 1892.
